Plants, Plants, Plants! Great Dixter House and Garden at Northiam held its Autumn Plant Fair over the weekend of October 6 and 7. The field reserved for the fair at the bottom of the property was covered with the most wonderful array of plants, trees and shrubs. The stallholders, as usual, came from all over Great Britain and Europe, although this may not be possible next year, as new regulations come in when Great Britain leaves the European Union.

Colour and form

Saturday dawned grey, but in spite of the weather forecast the rain held off most of the day. The plants benefited from the downpour, but business, which had been thriving, slackened as it got colder. Luckily, Saturday is always the day the intrepid plant hunters arrive, to get the best specimens and the unusual cultivars. Cars were left stacked with greenery and people were loaded down with all kinds of plants as they left the field.

Different passengers!

The cake stall, with its range of homemade cakes, did its usual roaring trade on both days and hotdogs were snapped up by the hungry. This was another weekend when dogs were allowed on the property, and they came in all shapes, sizes and breeds.

It was a busy, flowery scene, even at the end of Saturday when the rain came down, contrasting with the wonderful Sunday weather which brought people flocking in.
