Pregnant runner welcomes baby boy

Many of you will have witnessed local runner, Kay Bullen, continuing her daily runs through Rye during her pregnancy.

We’re pleased to announce that Kay and her fiancé, Phil Eccleston, welcomed a baby boy on Saturday, June 5.

Finisterre Jago Peter Eccleston (Fin for short) arrived nearly two weeks earlier than expected. Indeed, Kay was still slowly jogging the day before she went into labour.
Despite his early arrival, Fin weighed a very healthy 8lbs 5ozs.  Mother and baby are now home and well and the family is enjoying daily walks together (at a slightly slower pace than Kay and Fin are used to).

Kay wanted to send her thanks to all the many locals who have stopped to chat and wish her well throughout her pregnancy. Kay said: “I moved to Rye four years ago, after a long period of searching for my perfect first home. Rye ticked so many boxes for me and after finding a beautiful little cottage with stunning views, I immediately settled in to Rye and felt so happy to call this wonderful town and community my home.

“I’m very sad that we are due to leave Rye later this month (we’re moving a few miles away, where we can be closer to family and afford a more spacious house). I hope to return to Rye often though, to introduce Fin to all the things I’ve loved about the town and the wonderful people I’ve met along the way.

“The last few months here have been my best, as the people of Rye have made me feel even more a part of this special community; calling out well wishes whilst I’ve been running and asking after the baby and me.  So many people have been so supportive and I’ve really witnessed the very best of what this town offers. I think Rye will always feel like home to me, wherever my family and I end up in the future.

“I very much hope to see all the people I regularly chat to before I move, but if not, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you, as your support and words have really meant so much.”

  1. Congratulations Kay and Phil! The dogs and I will so missing seeing you out running. It was always so lovely to see your cheery smile as you ran by, even on the wettest, windiest days as we trudged through mud and puddles across the fields. Here’s wishing you, Phil and Fin the greatest happiness in your new home.
