Ship quiz night boosts charity

The first monthly quiz night at the Ship Inn on Monday April 23 proved a great success, and raised valuable funds for St Michael’s Hospice.
Manager Diana Taylor-Turner’s bar staff were excellent hosts at the fun evening, with Josie Minords and Christian Thwaites asking some intriguing questions set by Megan Mayor-Richards. There was a great deal of low-voiced discussion among the contesting teams who, during a well-deserved break in the proceedings, were treated to free sausages, chips and onion rings.
After several amusing interludes and comic exchanges between the questioners and the quiz teams The Wright Stuff stole a narrow victory from the Military Road-based Tricky Truckers. The Plough’s Grace Hannaford captained the Rye Rejects to the bronze medal position and the victors generously shared their prize bottles of Hush Heath wine with the other participants.
Future quizzes will take place on the last Monday of every month, except where that is a bank holiday in which case the quiz will be held on the previous Monday. This means that the next quiz will be held on Monday May 21 at 8pm. The entrance fee is £2 per person with teams limited to a maximum of six. Details of other fund-raising events for St Michael’s can be found at the hospice website.
The Ship Inn is located on The Strand. More information about the pub, including future events, can be found on its website.
