Spike’s at The Lodge

Prompted by the recent article on “Goons” comedian Spike Milligan, I was pleased to see that Heidi Foster knew about the actual author of “Smiles can be infectious” and a few weeks ago when Jane Milligan stayed at Winchelsea Lodge the poem came up in conversation – as did the renamed restaurant there.

Winchelsea Lodge is now under the ownership of Lee Stillwell and is a very different place now with many repeat customers as Lee has made significant investments in new kitchen equipment and, with a new Head Chef, they refuse to buy in anything frozen, so everything is fresh and locally sourced where possible.

The front of the building now has an impressive new large patio entrance to make access far easier for those with mobility issues and Lee has transformed the Lodge into a vibrant restaurant and has recruited a highly motivated team.

With the full support of Spike‘s family the restaurant is now rebranded as “Spike’s at the Lodge” with cartoons of him in recent advertising in Whats On magazine.

For visiting friends and family, Winchelsea Lodge is a comfortable and inexpensive place to stay where every possible Covid-19 precaution has been deployed and from Room 17 you can see Spike’s former home.

Lee also has two of the largest Christmas trees he could find in the area. Free transport is available within three miles of the Lodge in the recently purchased Land Rover Discovery  (please call them for details) , and with one of the most popular Sunday roasts, and takeaways on Thursday to Sunday, the Lodge is certainly worth a visit.
