The Skye’s the limit

Skye left primary school last week and heads now to a much bigger school with different challenges. She attended St Thomas’s Winchelsea and enjoyed her time there. She is not an “academic” child but is sporty and generous of spirit. Her school recognises that everyone has something to offer and Skye was presented with the Admirable Achievement Cup which is given by the governors to a child in year 6 who has been kind, caring, generous and selfless throughout their whole time at school.

How do you feel about leaving primary school?
I am sad but happy too. It is time to move on. It is a bit scary really as Rye College is so much bigger and I will be a very small fish in a much larger pond.

What have been the highlights of year 6?
Swimming: I love that and we have our own pool at school. I loved being with my close friends and going to PGL for a week at Windmill Hill adventure centre.

What is the Admirable Achievement Cup awarded for?
I was chosen to receive the cup because they said that I always wanted to help other people especially if they were sad. I like to cheer people up and look after them. Life can be tough for some pupils at school. It is good to make someone smile.

What would you like to go on to do in the future?
We are given most likely certificates for what our classmates think we will go on to do after school and I got most likely to be a chef. I think they are right as that is what interests me.

Skye’s mother, Emily summed it up: “This was my third year 6 leavers’ service, and it doesn’t get any easier. I am so proud of Skye. When she was awarded the cup I was so happy because she was recognised as being, kind, caring, and an all-round lovely young lady throughout her whole time at school. We love you and will continue to be proud of you every single day.”

It is good to remember that while popcorn is prepared in the same pot, on the same heat,
in the same oil, the kernels do not all pop at the same time. Every child has something to offer at different times of their lives and St Thomas’s recognises this in every child they teach.
