Since Easter this year, Mike Carver has been pounding the streets of Rye’s historic citadel and to date more than 900 visitors have accompanied him and enjoyed a “Rye History Walk”. The walks have started and finished at the Mermaid Inn, which was rebuilt in 1420 and has witnessed so much of Rye’s history.

Mike is a former history teacher and the walks, which highlight tales of Rye and its history, have received glowing reviews on Trip Advisor;

“This is a must-do activity if you want to find out more about the history of Rye”
“Brilliant overview of the History of Rye”
“Excellent guided walks”
“Fantastic … unlocks the mystique on so many things in Rye!”
“Highly recommended …one of the best town walks I have ever done”

With the walks proving extremely popular, and to celebrate their success, The Mermaid is offering a fabulous prize in this historic year commemorating the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings.

Visitor number 1,066 on this year’s Rye History Walks, plus a friend, will win a three-course meal in the historic Linen Fold panelled restaurant.

If you would like the chance to win a fantastic meal for two at the Mermaid Inn, then be sure to take a Rye History Walk before Saturday October 15, the anniversary weekend of the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
