Weekend to go to war

If you hear the sounds of guns and tanks in the distance this weekend, do not be surprised, as “The War and Peace Revival” is back at Westenhanger Racecourse, this side of Folkestone. It claims to have “the greatest gathering of military vehicles on the planet”. Running July 22-26, it will be commemorating the 75th anniversaries of Dunkirk and the Battle of Britain and the 70th anniversary of the end of World War Two – but probably not the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo. This is modern warfare and the peace that followed from the 20th century, so expect tanks, jeeps and machine-guns and possibly a bit of Dad’s Army – but not Napoleon.
