Bonfire poppies were a nice tribute

Well, there is a lot of discussion surrounding Rye Bonfire Society’s tribute effigy – poppies –  on our bonfire this year. A lot of outrage, and some believing that there is no reason that burning the image of something signifies hate. I don’t believe that burning something means it’s hated; I thought it was a nice tribute. What do you think? Does a bonfire effigy always have to be an image of something despised by the whole local community? If so, someone should get to work on copying the Jempson’s sign for next year.
