Rye Cricket Club has secured the services of 21-year-old Barbadian paceman, Shakeem Clarke for the 2017 season. He is the son of the late West Indies fast bowler Sylvester Clarke, who also played played for Surrey. Shakeem plays for Barbados’s oldest club, Wanderers, in the major Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) domestic competitions.

In 2016 he spent the season in South Africa playing for Irene Villagers in the South African Premier League. Previously he has played in England, for Wolverhampton CC and for the Worcestershire Academy.

He will be the Overseas Player for the 1st XI, providing a real threat with the ball, and offers explosive batting down the order. He is a qualified Level 2 coach so will make a very important contribution to the Colts coaching programme. Shakeem will also be valuable in supporting the work of Rye Cricket Club off the field, with so much to be done to ensure the season is a great success.

Rye look forward to welcoming Shakeem D Clarke in April for the pre-season friendlies on April 22 and 29, before the season opener on May 7.
