Back at the Recreation Ground following the previous week’s away fixture to Bexhill United Reserves, Icklesham Casuals first team cantered to a convincing 10-3 victory over Herstmonceux.

Following some fluid football early on, Charlie Cornford headed the Casuals into the lead and it was soon 2-0 with David Pugh volleying home from a corner. Herstmonceux pulled a goal back from a free-kick with the ball squirming in off Casuals centre half Jack Pullin but Kieran Dighton powered in a header from a pin point Steffan Davies cross to restore the two goal cushion.

In the 35th minute, Icklesham Casuals veteran of 990 games Martin Tytherleigh stole the show. After Liam Sayer was bought down inside the area by the Herstmonceux keeper, Tytherleigh was subbed onto the field and dispatched the penalty into the bottom right corner to make it 4-1 and take his tally of goals for the club to 183. Icklesham netted a further 3 goals before half time, including a second of the game by Dighton, ensuring all three points were well and truly safe.

Sayer and Cornford both completed their hat-tricks in the second half with Herstmonceux netting two goals of their own to wrap up the scoring.

With Cornford and Sayer both scoring three goals each and Dighton netting a brace by half-time, it was hard to pick the man of the match – so this was awarded to Martin Tytherleigh.

This Saturday sees the 1st team with an extremely difficult fixture when they take on Premier Division Sidley United in the Premier Travel Chauffeurs Challenge Cup, while the 2nd team after their week off have an away game at Ticehurst.
