Last Saturday Rye 1st XI started their pre-season with a close-fought game against Linden Park, on a very warm day.

Rye batted first and stuttered as they slipped to 63-5, but their innings was rescued by 16- year-old Rye Concepts Man of the Match Luke Payton with 59, and Tobias Farrow with 32.

Once they departed, Craig Pierce 24 not out, steered Rye to 169-9 in their 40 overs. Carlin Tapp with 3-15 was the pick of the Linden Park attack. Linden Park got off to a positive response as Graeme Francis (42, retired) led the way. But his departure through injury and tight bowling, with Tobias Farrow 1-8 off 6 overs in particular turning the screw. Linden Park finally got over the line with Mark Campbell 48 top scoring, by 6 wickets.

This Saturday Rye continue their pre-season with the 1st XI hosting Ashford Town 1st XI, and the 2nd XI travelling to play Hawkinge 1st Xl.

On Sunday Rye’s overseas player Altaf Ahmad arrives from Pakistan, in readiness for the season’s league opener away to Portslade on Saturday May 4.

On Friday, April 26 the Cricket Club is holding its Signing On Night from 7pm-8pm at The Rye Salts, where both Junior and Senior Members can sign up for the season. At 7:15pm NatWest Bank will be there to present a cheque for £250 to the Club to reward their involvement in the Natwest Cricket Force Day.
