The 2nd team of Icklesham Casuals, playing at home, took on Sovereign Saints II at the Recreation Ground  on Saturday and created a number of good opportunities in the opening 35 minutes which they failed to convert through a combination of poor finishing and good goalkeeping and as a result found themselves trailing by two goals to nil. Both goals conceded were self-inflicted – the first an own goal when a cross was headed into their own net and then a long ball forward was missed and a Saints forward ran through to finish smartly. In the 37th minute Jon Fitton won the ball in the Sovereign Saints half and passed to Ed White who set up Solly Cooke to pull a goal back.

Icklesham started the second half well and on 50 minutes Cooke played Lee Pierce through and Pierce neatly dinked the ball over advancing keeper for the equaliser. Both teams then went for the winner and it was Sovereign Saints who went ahead again mid-way the half. With eight minutes remaining, Chris Osunsami was fouled on the edge of the Saints box and Jack Swan stepped up to send the free-kick into the net for a deserved equaliser. There was still time for both teams to miss further chances and the match ended in a 3-3 draw.

The 1st team had an early kick-off away to Bexhill United and started well, taking the lead through Liam Sayer. Bexhill levelled in the second half for a 1-1 draw.

Prior to both matches, a minute’s silence was held to mark Armistice Day and also for the club to pay tribute to Ken Tytherleigh who sadly passed away last Monday. Ken was a loyal supporter of the club for many years.

The 1st team have a league game at home to Herstmonceux this Saturday while the 2nd team have a week off.
