Rye Cricket Club has successfully applied for a £5,500 grant from the English Cricket Board to support grassroots cricket to create a “welcoming environment”, as the sport seeks to support clubs after the challenges of lockdown.

The club, as part of the bid, has invested £2,000 of club funds. The monies will be used to redecorate the social areas of the pavilion, and purchase a range of furniture and an honours board for the pavilion.

The pavilion will then be ready to welcome members to the 2022 cricket season. A key part of the season is the junior coaching programme. The winter indoor sessions have started at Rye Sports Centre for eight weeks on Tuesdays, 5-6pm softball and 6-7pm hardball. There are a few places left as Rye prepares two U11 teams, one U13 team and one U15 team to participate in the Ashford & District league.

Bookings are now open for the summer softball coaching on Friday evenings, All Stars for 7-9 year olds and Cricket Dynamos for 9-11 years through the online site.

The social area of the pavilion and the Cricket Salts are the perfect place on a Friday evening for all the family to spend time together.
