Last weekend Rye’s indoor cricketers took part in an indoor tournament with a place at the county cup up for grabs for the winner. In their first game, Rye defeated Bells Yew Green by 25 runs in a great win that saw them go on to face Bexhill in the quarter finals later in the day.

Rye: 102 all out
Bells Yew Green: 77-4

In the second game of the day, Rye were defeated by Bexhill – by just two runs with three balls remaining.

Rye: 85 all out
Bexhill: 87-2

Rye’s captain Joe Lovell said: “It was a great bowling and fielding display by the lads and a good performance against stronger opponents, showing that we can compete with them. There were individual errors made by all, but there were more positives. Well played lads. Now let’s go win the league!”

April sees the start of the outdoor cricket season, with Rye facing three warm-up fixtures before their Sussex Cricket league division four campaign gets underway with a visit from Keymer & Hassocks on Saturday May 9.
