Veterens put Sedlescombe under pressure

Icklesham Casuals maintained their consistent start to the season last Saturday when they made it three wins from three games and all by a 2-1 score line.

The Casuals took the lead in the first half away to Battle Town III when Sean Baker converted a penalty following a foul on Val Newman. Baker sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot to register his 200th goal for the club on what was his 400th appearance.

Casuals crowd the Battle goal

Battle Town upped their game in the second half and came at the Casuals more but having seen this early pressure out it was Icklesham who increased their lead when Joe Fraser produced a fantastic left foot strike from the edge of the box which saw the ball fly into the net.

Battle pulled a goal back through substitute Jack Trevena following a quick break and thanks to some fine saves from goalkeeper Michael Watson the Casauals held on for the win.

Icklesham Casuals Veterans started their campaign in the Hastings F A Veterans League on Sunday against Sedlescombe Rangers Veterans with the match being switched from Icklesham to Sedlescombe. They found themselves 2-0 down early on before coming back through goals from Karl Tarrant and Phil Badrock to make the score level at half-time.

The Casuals started to control the match in the second period and took the lead with Badrock’s second goal of the game. A fourth goal always looked likely and it finally came when Gavin Moor chipped the opposing keeper. Sedlescombe reduced the arrears in the final few minutes.

Icklesham are in cup action this Saturday with an away game against AFC Hollington II in the first round of the East Sussex League Divisions Four and Five Challenge Cup. The match is at Helenswood Sports Centre and kicks-off at 2.30 p.m.
