Runners cooking with gas

The class of 2020 is the self imposed term of affection for the bunch of 40 hopefuls who joined together in January for the Rye runners beginners class. The ten week course was going really well and with nine sessions under our belt the coronavirus struck the UK and all bets were off so to speak. Week ten never happened, how frustrating, one more week and we would have qualified for our prized red Rye Runners tee shirts.

When we get our red tee shirts lets hope we don’t need the next size up.

The group has kept together during lockdown via WhatsApp, a godsend and an invaluable way to communicate and motivate from the comfort of our front rooms or where ever. As a group it’s far easier to motivate each other, solo motivation is hard during lockdown and to alleviate the boredom some of our group have proven to be budding Nigellas and Jamies.

The secret is out, these runners are really foodies, the trick is balancing the two without packing on the pounds. Just this morning I received the photo below of Camber Castle from Sonja Coleman, she celebrated a 3 mile run and shared the photo with the group but comfort eating is also on the agenda for many of us but the culinary skills coming through are worth mentioning too. Sonja has already made a tart tartin followed by a scrumptious apple and pear crumble.

Camber castle, spring lambs, sunshine and blue skies, bliss. All this just by going for a run.

Sonja Coleman has been doing pudding of the week, last week it was the turn of this delicious looking tiramisu, as for this week I believe banana muffins and cake are the order of the day, all round to Sonja’s!! (if only)

Home made tiramisu and pink champagne, how civilised.

One of our group, Jonathan surprised us all by losing 18 lbs during our course but due to lockdown comfort eating put two back on a week ago but thankfully they have now been eliminated after a bit of hard work and will power.

What we miss is the motivation of our trainer, Gareth McCully and his team but we understand Gareth, out of frustration, has taken up DIY to help to kill the boredom, after lockdown I wonder if he will let us all have trip out on his ark?
