Stuttering start for Town FC

Saturday September 1 and Rye Town FC were due to kick off the new season with an away fixture against Bexhill Town. Unfortunately the pitch was not ready and the game had to be postponed.

Following this disappointment, Rye Town were informed by Rother District Council that the pitches at the Salts will be unplayable until at least the second week of October. This due to cracks in the pitches from the recent hot summer.

They finally got their season underway on Saturday September 8 when they travelled to Hooe Recreational Ground to play Sidley.  After taking the lead in the 10th minute with a penalty by Alfie Weller, Town lost the game by giving away 2 penalties of their own and ended up losing by 4 goals to 1 – not a great start.

Rye Heating’s Man of The Match was Steve Thompson and the match sponsors were Dunes Bar & Restaurant.

  1. The treatment of Rye town by Rother parks department is a disgrace, last season they pulled the goal posts early, despite there being known activity on the Salts the following week, this season they have done it again, despite having all summer to get the pitch playable, some say they are not fit for purpose, and I must agree.
