Charitable ghosts at the Mermaid

Last week The Mermaid Inn closed its doors to regular guests, as she underwent her annual brush up. Especially important as you approach your 600th birthday.
The doors to The Mermaid were instead opened during the day, to visitors who were conducted on a Tour of The Mermaid by owner Judith Blincow. They were treated to stories of William Shakespeare and Queen Elizabeth I visiting Rye and The Mermaid. They looked up the Giants Fireplace at the Priest Hole, and walked through the secret passageway between Dr Syn’s Chamber and The Elizabethan Bedchamber.
In the twilight hours The Mermaid was visited on four nights by paranormal Investigators, who sought the spirits, often seen by guests.
Thanks to the donations of all these guests, and the Boxing Day Raffle supported by our regulars, an amazing £3,053.53 has been raised for the National Deaf Children’s Society. More is still being donated via the website www.ndcs.org.uk
