Jeake’s House, located in the heart of Rye is a remarkable example of the town’s accumulated history, its origins reaching back to the 17th century. It was once owned by Samuel Jeake, who was a notable wool merchant and the son of the town clerk. Over the centuries it has served various purposes, including as a wool storehouse, school, chapel, and residence for the local Baptist minister.
Doris Jennings, who owns Jeake’s House with her husband Chris, decided to fundraise for the charity MacMillan Cancer Support by hosting a special afternoon tea on Saturday, August 16. There were two sittings and both were fully booked. Doris’s family came to support her and her super team at Jeake’s House.

Doris and Chris have embraced the community in which they live and work and when they told local businesses that they were having a raffle at the afternoon teas they were thrilled with the support they received. It felt good that the community was embracing them back.
They have raised £2,665 so far with other donations coming in still. Doris was helped by Jackie, Lisa, Poppy and Lucy and her family. Congratulations on the success of this event.
