The festive spirit is alive and well in New Romney this season and a band of public-spirited citizens are doing everything possible to make it a sparkling occasion for the community.

Caroline Wire leads a team that is hosting a series of workshops to create lanterns that will light the way when the Light Up New Romney Christmas parade starts the festive season on Friday, December 10.

At a free, drop-in workshop at the Old School in Church Lane, members of the public were busy creating lanterns last weekend. All ages took advantage, creating lanterns of various shapes and sizes, many of which will feature in a candlelit parade in the church on December 10, prior to carols and other festive songs with the local choir.

Proceedings commence on December 10 at 4:30pm with an official opening by the mayor of New Romney. Shops will stay open late and the first-ever Light Up New Romney Christmas Market will take place in the assembly rooms in Church Approach.

The parade will start at 6:30pm from Tritton Lane, passing through High Street, Victoria Street, and Church Road, concluding at St. Nicholas Church. Various other forms of street entertainment will be taking place and many of the shops in town will be running special promotions and activities through the evening.
