Dementia awareness comes at us from many angles, through personal experience as well as community education campaigns and next week there are two local events well worth attending. The first features Dr Lindsay Hadley, a specialist GP from the Memory Assessment Service, who will give a talk to the joint surgeries’ patient participation groups in Rye, entitled “All you wanted to know about Dementia, but were afraid to ask” on Wednesday, September 2.

The organisers also hope to have in attendance a representative from Heringtons Solicitors to answer questions on the ‘Power of Attorney’. The talk is at Rye Community Primary School in Love Lane at 6 for 6:30 pm, with refreshments and a raffle. All are welcome, and entrance is free.

Then on September 4 the “Sunset Serenade” concert offers an evening of song with different performers, including “the fabulous Sunset Singers Choir, which will surprise and delight those who are living with dementia, or care for someone living with dementia ” say the organisers, the Rye and District Dementia Action Alliance. The concert is at the theatre in the the Creative Centre, ARRCC, New Road, Rye, TN31 7LS from 7pm until 9 pm. Tickets are £7.50, and advance booking is essential.
