Community cash grants
Charities, community groups and organisations, social enterprises, and parish and town councils in Rother are being reminded they only have until the end of October to apply in the latest round of community grants.
Rother District Council’s £100,000 community grants fund was launched in September. Bids must demonstrate they boost the local economy, improve health and wellbeing, and protect the environment.
Not-for-profit organisations have until October 31, 2025 to apply. More details here.
What a show

This year’s Rye and District Country Show raised an incredible £27,000 for St Michael’s Hospice – £2,000 more than last year. The show, on August 16, took place at Elm Tree Farm at Icklesham.
Show chairman Mike Boyd said he was delighted by final amount. “This is the result of a lot of hard work by a happy band of volunteers, and support from our sponsors and advertisers, and I would like to thank them all.”
Another road closure

Jury’s Gap Road, between Camber and Lydd, will be closed 24 hour-a-day from Thursday October 30 until Tuesday November 4.
A spokesperson for East Sussex Highways said: “We will be working between the Gate 3 entrance to Lydd Ranges Military School and approximately 50 metres before the county boundary. The road will be closed for 24 hours a day due to the extent of works required.
“No buses will be able to use this route for the duration of these works with public transport aware and taking appropriate action.”
Also closed

The main rail line from Hastings to Tunbridge Wells is closed next week, with buses also replacing trains between Hastings and Bexhill.
Both routes will be shut from Saturday October 25 until Sunday November 2 to allow for repairs in the Bo Peep and Hastings tunnels, track work north of Battle, and signalling upgrades at Frant and Wadhurst.
Worth a visit if you dare
Rye Heritage Centre launches its latest show this Friday October 24.
To coincide with Halloween Rye After Dark once again makes use of the town model says manager Simon Parsons. “The show captures the soul of Rye’s haunted past through vivid scenes and haunting documented storytelling that will immerse you in the town’s eerie, ghost-filled atmosphere. From ghostly monks gliding through misty streets to eerie tales of haunted houses and restless spirits, Rye After Dark drenches you in the sights, smells, sounds, and whispers of ages gone by.”
