In this week’s Arts and Culture section Col Everett makes a passionate case for people in Rye to make the most of the Kino. Now in its tenth year, it’s a fantastic cinema and a great place to meet friends she says.
That makes it the perfect place for one of our “Meet Rye News” events.
Members of the team will be at Rye Kino on Monday 1 December from 6.15-8pm. It’s a chance for local people to find out more about Rye’s local paper, pass on tips and stories and, crucially, discuss how to get involved.
Everyone at Rye News is a volunteer and like every voluntary organisation in the town we need new people to join us.
The most urgent need is for people to be our reporters, following up leads and news stories. There’s a lot going on in Rye and we need your help to cover the news. We’ll provide training.
You could also help with putting the paper together: proof-reading and double-checking articles, selling advertising, creating social media or publishing the paper on a Thursday afternoon.
The time commitment is up to you. Some people put in many hours a week, others send in a story every now and again.
It’s an exciting time to be part of Rye News. We’ll be moving to a different publishing system soon which will mean we can be more flexible and creative. More multi-media too, so if you’ve audio or video skills, or want to learn them, get in touch.
Plus you’ll get an inside track on what’s happening in our town at our team meetings, when we share stories and ideas as we plan what goes into the paper.
Rye News has over 6000 readers a week – most live in and around Rye, but we also have readers elsewhere in the UK and across the world. The paper is pretty unique too, filling a much needed gap left by the collapse of local reporting and journalism.
So do join us on Monday 1 December 6.15-8pm at Rye Kino. Members of the team will be on hand to answer your queries over a glass of wine.
If you can’t make it, do email us to arrange a better time for you: info@ryenews.org.uk
