There’s a fresh energy stirring in Camber as The Owl welcomes new chef Jason Reynolds to the kitchen — just in time for the much-anticipated Rye Bay Scallop Week.
The Owl is an independent pub, restaurant and guesthouse tucked just behind the iconic dunes of Camber Sands beach in East Sussex. A true favourite of residents and visitors to Camber, the Owl places a strong emphasis on local seafood, meat and seasonal produce from the surrounding fields and sea, with dishes crafted daily to order, making it an ideal spot for contemporary coastal cuisine. Scallops, specially during Rye Bay Scallop Week, are a standout highlight on the menu.
With the sea only a breath away and Rye Harbour’s fishing boats supplying some of the finest shellfish in the country, the timing feels just right. Scallop Week is always a celebration of local waters and local talent — and Jason is keen to make his mark.
Bringing a style rooted in classic technique with a contemporary coastal twist, Jason’s approach focuses on letting the scallop shine — sweet, delicate and perfectly seared — supported by seasonal Sussex ingredients. Expect thoughtful flavour pairings, elegant presentation and a menu that honours the simplicity and quality of Rye Bay’s prized catch.

Jonathan Strange at The Owl said: “Scallop Week is a highlight in our calendar, and having Jason join us at this moment feels incredibly exciting. His passion for local produce and his creative flair are already making waves in the kitchen.”
For Camber residents and the many visitors who flock to the dunes and wide skies, The Owl’s new chapter promises warmth, creativity and a true taste of the coast.
