On Friday May 22, Rye College presented another Rye Wurlitzer event. The audience was treated to their choice of three food options, including pizza and lemon mousse with coffee or tea in the interval, served by the students who did a fantastic job enabling everybody to get their hot food as quickly as possible. It was a friendly and fun evening and for those who had not witnessed it before, the sight of the Wurlitzer organ rising to the stage was amazing.

Richard Moore, who is famous for his production of marmalade and jam (which was sold on Friday morning in the Community Centre), was the MC and introduced the various musicians. Michael Wooldridge played the Wurlitzer and Hammond organs with two young players, Jamyma Hanson and Robert Eldridge (Young Theatre Organist of the year 2017), who took turns. Robert also played the violin with the organ.

The instrument amazingly can produce an orchestrated sound, individual tunes and bell ringing all at once. It involves quite a talent to create these varied sounds on this instrument, and the audience enjoyed both classical and Beatles music. Jonathan Adams also treated us to a very fast medley on his two different accordions.

The College has plenty of car spaces and is easy to get to. Look out for the next Wurlitzer event and the yearly prom in September. The Rye Theatre, Rye College, TN31 7NQ  01424 444 058
