The team behind Rye Pirates and Smugglers Day say they need volunteers to come forward to help continue the event in 2027.
On Saturday 8 August this year, Rye was packed as hundreds of pirates in spectacular costumes paraded through the town. As well as a procession through the streets there were also events at The Strand and Salts. The free day also saw re-enactments, a smugglers’ market, music and best-dressed competitions for children and adults. The event ended with the crowning of the Pirate King and Queen.
Zoe Britton, from organisers The Brethren of the Sea, said, “We now need your help! You have seen and enjoyed the incredible event that is Rye Pirates and Smugglers Day and we now need your support. Can you volunteer your time to help the crew throughout the year?”
“Without your help we cannot move forward into 2027,” she said. “We’re asking people to register for our next meeting by this Sunday 6 September. The meeting will be held later in the month.”
