Meeting at the town hall

Rye Town Hall

Rye Town Council meets this Monday 22 June at 6.30pm.

The agenda includes items on Rye Leisure Centre, Rye’s public toilets, grant applications for funding from two organisations, and the council’s budget and reserves. You can see the agenda and supporting documents here.

Both meetings are open to the public.

Chamber social

Rye Chamber of Commerce’s Summer Social takes place on Wednesday 24 June from 6pm to 10pm at Rye Harbour Sailing Club.

Last year over 80 people attended the social at Rye Tennis Club and this year the weather looks great for an evening by the river. Full details here.

Two things are likely to be discussed by Chamber members: the extent of shoplifting and anti-social behaviour affecting local traders, and how best to promote the town to visitors.

Ukrainian get together

Monthly meeting of Rye’s Ukrainians and supporters

Each month the Ukrainians living in and around Rye meet to catch up and exchange news from home. For over four years the Rye Hub for the Homes for Ukraine Scheme has organised these monthly events, thanks go to the River Haven Hotel and the Baptist Church for their hospitality.

On Monday 15 June the cake baking was courtesy of Elizabeth Kimber but usually Ukrainian cakes feature prominently. Anthony Kimber, who set up the Rye Hub with Rother Voluntary Action (RVA) in 2022 said, “The group enjoy coming together to exchange news. We have had good support from the town council and several other local organisations which will enable us to continue for as long as the war continues. Susan Gedge from RVA and Helen Jempson, who hosts two of the members, attended on Monday.”
