Last Saturday saw all three Rye cricket teams taste defeat, but in three totally different games.
The 1sts off the back of four straight wins travelled to Rottingdean. There they found a wicket hard to score on as they batted first. Only Cornel Swart prospered scoring 75. Jack Grieg 31 and Ruben Collingwood 26 offered support, but five ducks tell a story. Dismissed for 163, Rottingdean equally found batting tricky as they crawled past the total in 38.5 overs thanks to overseas player Peter Bonar who scored 104 not out.
This week the 1sts host Buxted Park in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera starting at 12.30pm.
The 2nds hosted St Peter’s 3rd Xl in a match sponsored by The Mermaid Inn. To use a footballing metaphor it was a game of two halves. St Peter’s batted first and got off to a positive start at 95-2 as Beau Seymour hit 40 and Jamie Ricketts 57 NO. Rye then applied pressure and the spinners dismissed St Peter’s for 180 in the 40th over. Riley McCarthy 4-25, Martin Blincow 3-37 and Ross Pierce 2-24. It was an opportunity to win which the Rye batters failed to take advantage of. Five batsmen got starts, but then got themselves out to relatively friendly bowling. Mark Cook 20 top scored. Rye left six overs unused, and fell 36 runs short.
This Saturday Rye travel to play Crowborough 1st Xl.
The 3rds had an incredible game against Bexhill 3rds. Rye with only nine men posted 296-5 off 40 overs. Jared Aardweg 84, Scott Balcomb 54, Shannon Engelbrecht 54 and Richard Matthews 38 piled on the runs. Unbowed Bexhill went after victory. Harry Strugnell 72, Kieran Mahon 54, Simon Catt 43 plus 45 extras. It came down to the last ball. Scores level, Bexhill nine wickets down, one to win, missed run out chance and Bexhill won by one wicket.
Next Saturday Rye 3rds travel to play Sidley 2nds.

The Juniors played this week in heatwave conditions after a couple of weeks of monsoons. The U11A team had a close encounter with Mersham A losing by just seven runs. Quinn Morris 2-4 the pick of the bowlers and Theo Davis 17 the top scoring batter.
The U11B side lost by 65 runs but bowled and batted really well. The size of the loss was only inflicted as the last pair sought vainly to close the gap. These are all good learning games as the majority of these players still have two or three more seasons in the Under 11s.
The U16s made it three wins in a row defeating Ashford Town B by 100 runs. Rye posted 215 -1 in 20 overs. Freddie Furnival and Olly Balcomb scoring undefeated 50s, Bertie Furnival, Henry Blackman and Luke Rogers adding to the score with 30s. Then Bertie Furnival struck with 3 wickets and Alex Welch with 2 wickets.
Next Monday the U11A travel to Great Chart, the U11B host Wye and on Tuesday the U16s Rye host Egerton and the U13s host Tenterden.
This week’s featured sponsor is Marino’s Fish Bar.
