Comments Policy
Rye News comments policy and guidelines 2025
As a vibrant community newspaper Rye News encourages debate on local issues and welcomes comments from our readers on the stories we publish.
Your comments should be no longer than 100 words. Anything above this word count may be edited for brevity. If you would like to write a longer comment or article please email the editorial team at info@ryenews.org.uk
Once you submit a comment, there may be a delay of up to 24 hours before it is published.
Comments will only be published if they meet the following guidelines:
– They must be relevant to the story
– All comments should be civil, polite and respectful. Personal abuse and comments designed to offend are not acceptable.
– Any additional facts should be supported by the source of the information.
– Only comments considered to be from a genuine source will be published.
– All comments must be accompanied by the author’s full name and email address. Only the name will be published. Made up names, initials, or just first names are not acceptable.
Like all the team at Rye News, the moderators of the comments are volunteers. They ensure all comments meet our guidelines and may edit them to improve grammar, spelling and readability. The moderators may on occasion discuss a post’s suitability with the Editor, whose decision is final.
Rye News is not a social media site. We are Rye’s local newspaper, providing a reliable source of news and features about Rye and the surrounding villages. Comments and articles for our Opinions section, within the guidelines, will continue to be part of the paper’s role in encouraging community debate and discussion.
