Sun shines on garden party

Last Sunday afternoon, July 3, members and guests of Rye Conservation Society enjoyed an afternoon in the sun, chatting with friends and taking tea in the garden of Little Orchard House in West Street. The lawn and shrubs were looking their best: “It’s all down to Andy” said hostess Niki Stuart, referring to her husband, as she wielded a teapot benevolently. Jen Tomkinson dispensed home-made cakes, strawberry scones and that scrumptious millionaire’s shortbread; it was all very civilised and enjoyable.

Among the guests were John Walker, chairman of the Kent Federation of Amenity Societies and Jan Pahl, chair of the Canterbury Society. It was an opportunity to repay the hospitality shown to members by the Canterbury Society on their recent visit there.
