St Michael’s Hospice in Hastings is recovering and still in business after an arson attack caused considerable damage, and a fundraising event is taking place in Bodiam next weekend. The Fabulously Vintage Fair promises this year to be even bigger and better, say the organisers. On offer is a vast collection of vintage and retro stalls in the ‘vintage market place’ as well traditional village fete games, vintage tearooms, vintage hair and makeup and Lindy Hoppers to transport you back in time.

There will be something for everyone, including a children’s marquee which includes games, workshops, face painting, bouncy castle and storytelling (all with vintage prices!), vintage cars, motorbikes and military vehicles to browse and live entertainment along with a vintage photo booth.

The event takes place on Saturday September 19 from 10am – 4pm in the grounds of Mad Hatters Fancy Dress, Ockham Oast House, Staplecross Road, Bodiam, East Sussex, TN32 5RA. Plenty of parking available. For further information on bringing your vintage vehicle or booking a stall email fabulouslyvintage@stmichaelshospice.com or call 07827 912621.

Since the devastating fire, the Hospice has been working efficiently and effectively to ensure all services continue to be available to their community throughout Hastings and Rother. All patients are now being cared for by Hospice staff at Hastings Court, a beautifully designed, modern care home on the Ridge in Hastings. Patients also have access to all other Hospice services including spiritual, religious and pastoral care and the level of care remains at the high, specialist standard that it was within the Hospice building.

All other services are also running successfully from various locations and all admin staff are working from temporary offices. Further information on the services can be found on the Hospice website. Plans are well underway to rebuild the Hospice and it is predicted to take around a year from commencement of building work before they will be able to accept in-patients in to the Hospice building. They are also looking at returning admin staff to the upper floors of the Hospice within a month.

“The Hospice is incredibly grateful to everyone across Hastings and Rother who has supported them during this difficult time” said Emma Bailey, Marketing and Communications Officer at St Michaels. It has made a massive difference to how quickly they have been able to resume all services. The Hospice will be updating their website and social media pages with further information when it is available.
