The Rye Bookshop is planning a series of events in the next few weeks. Lizzie Lee, who manages the shop reports.
On Saturday May 14 we have two events – from 10am to 12 noon, Booker and Baileys Prize nominee Samantha Harvey will be signing copies of her three books, “Dear Thief”, “The Wilderness” and “All is Song”. Then from noon until 4pm, bestselling true-crime writer Wensley Clarkson will be signing copies of his new book, “Sexy Beasts: The Real Inside Story of the Hatton Garden Mob” (and will be providing complimentary wine!).
On Saturday May 21 we’re hosting a talk and signing with Helen Simonson at 6pm. Her first book, “Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand”, was an international bestseller as well as a Richard & Judy Book Club pick, and her latest, “The Summer Before The War”, is a wonderful novel set right here in Rye. Tickets are selling well but there are some left (price is £3) and anyone interested should book ASAP by popping in or calling 01797 227442.
-On Sunday May 29 at 5pm we’re hosting a Q&A with two very successful writers, Lydia Syson and Catherine Johnson, talking about their two novels “That Burning Summer” (Lydia Syson), which is set on Romney Marsh during World War II, and “The Curious Tale of the Lady Caraboo” (Catherine Johnson), which is set in Georgian times and has been shortlisted for the YA Book Prize 2016. Both are technically classed as “Young Adult” writers but having read both books I can promise there’s a lot of crossover appeal for adults too, and they’re fascinating stories! Tea and cake will be provided. Tickets are free but booking is required as space is limited – again, anyone interested can ring or pop in.
