The Tuesday Painters of Rye are delighted to announce the winner of their recent competition to design a Christmas card – shown above partially and in full below.

The winner: ‘St. Mary’s Church, Udimore’. Pen Ink Watercolour Wash, by Michael Edwards

The Runners Up were: ‘I saw Three Ships…’. Acrylic, by Janet Haken and Untitled Watercolour, by Claire Polley

Originally, the idea was intended to motivate our members, perhaps dispirited by Covid-19, to get their creative hats on and share their efforts with us. Helen at Artwrite was the judge and the Club awarded Michael with a £20 Artwrite voucher.

There were 34 entries in total, including six by younger family members, one by two year-old, Tamsin, with a delightful collage entitled ‘Deconstructed Santa’ which brought a smile to our faces. And we can’t leave without commenting on a second kid’s card, done by very talented seven year old, Harriet. There is nothing better than getting them started young!

This event was run concurrently with the Rye Arts Festival’s to design a Christmas card competition. We will be announcing the four winners of that shortly.
