Local photographer, Peter East-Hall has had his entry to a recent wildlife photography competition, titled Mr Fox, commended by the judges. The competition run by Photocrowd drew entries from photographers around the world.
Peter is very happy with his commendation. “The contest was for local wildlife, asking for pictures of wildlife living or visiting the garden, park, or woods. The contest had 1733 photographers enter with 5485 photographs entered.”
Living in the Dungeness Nature Reserve, Peter is inspired by the abundant wildlife and fauna that surrounds him. “Mr Fox visits and waits outside my back gate every evening for his evening meal of hotdogs and dog biscuits. He has been visiting for a couple of years, I have lots of photos of Mr Fox as he likes to pose!”
The landscape and people of the area also appeal to Peter. “I love capturing beautiful landscapes, showing how beautiful England is. With portrait photography I like meeting new people, bringing out their characters in the photos, it is also a personal challenge to my social anxiety. With wildlife it is a chance to get up close to these creatures without disturbing them, we have such beautiful animals in this country that can go unnoticed, and also like people, photography can bring out the character in the animals and birds.”
As part of the Coastal Currents Open Studios festival Peter will open his studio on September 7 and 8 from 11am – 5pm. His work can also be seen at the forthcoming Art Fair at St Mary’s Centre in Lion Street, Rye on November 2.
