Plans are well underway for the 2023 Rye International Jazz and Blues Festival which starts on Thursday, August 24 and runs until Monday, August 28, encompassing the bank holiday weekend.

In addition to the world class headline concerts taking place at St Mary’s church, the festival programme includes three days of exceptional free live music performances on a dedicated outdoor performance stage with five acts performing each day from Saturday August 26 to Monday August 28.

Music styles will include jazz, blues, roots, soul, funk, Latin and Cuban music, featuring wonderful emerging and established music talent from across the region and from further afield.

Ian Bowden, the festival director commented: “For the festival to present our three days of high-quality free music, we must raise in the region of £25,000 to make this all possible.

“We have recently launched a Crowdfunder to raise much needed additional funds that will make an invaluable contribution to the target that we have to reach each year. So far, we have secured funding to a certain level through the kind support of several local and regional businesses and private patrons however, we still need additional support to reach our total costs, so please help us keep our free music alive!

“There is currently limited help available to fund culture and the arts and of course, we are all living in challenging times but through it all music unites us and brings us together and helps us all to celebrate the joy that music provides and enhances our mental wellbeing.

“We are appealing to the wider community of Rye both individuals and business to please make an appreciated donation to our Crowdfunder. Donations small or large will go directly to the performance fees, staging, lighting, sound, all the infrastructure and to look after our amazing volunteers.

“Presenting the free music during the festival is an important core value of the festival, provided access to people of all backgrounds to experience live music and greatly benefits the economy of Rye in so many ways.”
