Movies showing in Rye from Friday October 9 include:

A Walk in the Woods [15] 104 mins  In this new comedy adventure, celebrated travel writer, Bill Bryson challenges himself to hike the Appalachian Trail – 2,200 miles of America’s most unspoiled, spectacular and rugged countryside from Georgia to Maine. The peace and tranquility he hopes to find is anything but, once he agrees to be accompanied by the only person he can find willing to join him on the trek – his long lost and former friend Katz, a down-on-his-luck serial philanderer who, after a lifetime of relying on his charm and wits to keep one step ahead of the law – sees the trip as a way to get out of paying some debts and sneak into one last adventure before it’s too late. The trouble is, the two have a completely different definition of the word, “adventure”. Now they’re about to find out that when you push yourself to the edge, the real fun begins. Starring Robert Redford, Emma Thompson, Nick Nolte and Mary Steenburgen.

Sicario [15] 121 mins  Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro star in one of the best reviewed films of the year, a gripping thriller directed by Denis Villeneuve (Incendies, Prisoners). In the lawless border area stretching between the U.S. and Mexico, idealistic FBI agent Kate is enlisted by an elite government task force official to aid in the escalating war against drugs. Led by an enigmatic consultant with a questionable past, the team sets out on a clandestine journey forcing Kate to question everything that she believes in order to survive.

Macbeth [15] 113 mins  Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard star in acclaimed director Justin Kurzel’s visceral and breath-taking interpretation of Shakespeare’s classic tale of obsession and greed. Also starring David Thewlis, Elizabeth Debicki, Sean Harris, Jack Reynor and Paddy Considine.

Life [15] 111 mins  Inspired by the now famous photo shoot commissioned by LIFE magazine in 1955, Anton Corbijn’s (Control, The American) beautifully-shot film reveals the unlikely friendship between unproven photographer Dennis Stock and a little-known actor on the cusp of stardom called James Dean. The LIFE assignment, which would ultimately provide the world with some of the most lasting and iconic images of the age, took the pair on a road trip around the US and created a friendship that would change Stock’s life forever. Starring Robert Pattinson, Dane DeHaan, Ben Kingsley and Joel Edgerton.

Miss You Already [12A] 112 mins  They say opposites attract. Milly is the woman who has everything: a successful career; a devoted husband and two gorgeous kids. Her best friend is Jess who lives in a boathouse with her boyfriend and desperately wants a baby. Friends since childhood, they can’t remember a time when they didn’t share everything. That is until Milly is hit with life-changing news and needs Jess’s support more than ever. A moving and humorous film about the bond of true friendship, one that ultimately cannot be broken, even in life’s toughest moments. Written by Morwenna Banks, directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen), set in London and starring Toni Collette, Drew Barrymore, Paddy Considine, Dominic Cooper, Jaqueline Bisset and Frances de la Tour.
