The Hub on Rye Hill may be temporarily closed because of the second lockdown, and the excellent café (shown above) will be sorely missed, but behind the scenes exciting plans are afoot. The Hub is delighted to be working with Arts on Prescription, a local organisation which promotes wellbeing by encouraging people to take part in a variety of exciting, different activities.

Arts on Precription hopes to offer a Christmas activity, but no one knows what the future restrictions may be. However there is a plan B – to send out an activity sheet for people who sign up with their email – about what they are planning for 2021.

The group leader, explains more: “Arts on Prescription (AOP) is a team of artists passionate about the benefits that participation in art and culture has on mental health and we believe in art for all. Providing art in accessible spaces, we aim to break down barriers that prevent people from participating e.g. finances, accessible spaces, confidence.

Life continues, even during lockdown.

“Arts on Prescription has recently joined the Hub on Rye Hill to offer art for wellbeing activities as part of our Keep Safe, Stay Connected, Creative Programme to residents in Rye and rural areas. So, after a month in lockdown, let’s help to get you into the festive mood!

“Join our festive decoration making Saturday on December 12 from 10am – 1pm for a Christmas craft activity morning. Open to all (£6 / concessions / GP waivers are available). Prizes will be available for the best and most creative designs.

This is for all ages and will be a fun kick start to our ongoing creative workshops beginning in January.”If this exciting day is unable to proceed, then why not register for an activity worksheet and send in a photo of your finished work to enter the competition by emailing it to info@artsonprescription.org.uk – and look forward to a creative 2021.

And for the New Year…

Every Saturday from 9 January 2021 at 10am – 1pm AOP will run taster sessions for adults aged over 18. Drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles, and much more. Beginners welcome- all equipment provided. Cost: £8 per session / £6 concessions or a GP referral waiver.

Every Saturday from 9 January 2021 from 10am – 1pm, for families, a fun family community history art and craft morning (adult and child 6 years or older) Cost: £8 per family / £6 concessions or a GP referral waiver.
