It’s that time again! Oh no!

Oh yes – Christmas is coming and some people are already thinking “pantomime” – and what can be more fun than the ugly sisters (above) as performed by the Iden Players.

However on this occasion it is “Acting Up in Rye” who are holding auditions for “Cinderella” this coming Thursday August 25 in the Old Scout Hut in The Grove in Rye and for more information you can ring Sarah on 07766211220.

You may also catch her in the garden of 11 High Street between 10:00am and 12:30pm as as “Acting Up” are holding a fundraising coffee morning – with live music – this Saturday August 20. “Oh no you won’t” someone says. “Oh yes you will” says someone else ” as I think she’s the one with the coffee pot”.

However if your taste is more for art than acting two shows overlap this weekend with the Rye Society of Arts exhibition in the Rye Community Centre Dance Hall from 10:30am – 5:30pm finishing on Sunday afternoon August 21, while the Tuesday Painters open in the St Mary’s Centre in Lion Street next to the Kino this Friday August 19 2pm-6pm, and then daily 10am-6pm.

But if your taste is for neither,  how about Rye’s fruit and veg show this Saturday from 2pm (prize presentations at 3:30pm) in Rye Communitty Centre main hall  or East Guldeford’s church fete  at St Mary’s from 4:30pm (on the right off the A259 to Ashford just outside Rye).

If you want music the outdoor stage at the Ypres Castle Inn is now up and running (with Angelo Tristan, above, featuring last weekend) and the pub features this Friday August 19 from 9:30 pm (indoors) Mtvessels, and outside on stage Saturday the Turpin Hubbard Trio 3pm-5 pm and Phil Trainor 6pm-8pm and, on Sunday, outdoors on the garden stage Cajun Dawgs 3pm-5pm and Katie Bradley Blues Trio 6pm-8pm.

Next Thursday August 25 the East Street Museum has a children’s craft afternoon from 2pm-4 pm with “Pirates and more aargh” (£2 for 4-10 year olds who will need an adult companion) and the Rye Jazz and Blues Festival kicks off that evening with jazz all stars at the Mermaid Inn from 7pm (ticketed) and Phil Law in The Standard (for free) also from 7 pm.
