Meet the Rye News Team

Rye News continues to go from strength to strength, due mainly to the efforts of the team of volunteers, led by editor Chris Lawson. Rye News didn’t fail to publish an edition each and every week throughout the Covid epidemic, led by then editor Charlie Harkness, and its readership has grown steadily over the period. But, without its readers and contributors, Rye News would be a different story, and we are very grateful for the input and comments received each week which keeps the paper real and alive.

We often get asked “who are the team behind Rye News?” Well, you now have the opportunity to meet them in person as you are invited to join them at the Brewery Yard Club on Saturday, March 12 from 11am, with complimentary teas and coffees available for all who are able to join us. The refreshments are kindly being sponsored by Jane Brook of the Brewery Yard Club.

It’s your opportunity to raise any issues you want to air, share thoughts, ideas, and feedback. After all, it’s your community paper and we value your opinions. It would also be nice to hear if you think we are doing things well, how we could improve what we produce. Are there areas we need to look at or review?

The open meeting is also the opportunity for you to volunteer to join Rye News. We are always on the lookout for reporters or contributors, especially in the local villages and outlying areas. Are you good at English and spelling? If so, do you fancy having a go at being a sub-editor, checking the stories for typos and orthographic errors as part of the team of existing ‘subs’? Unfortunately, there’s nothing in it for you except the sense of pride when you see the article published, and of course being part of a team who care about their community counts for a lot.

Perhaps your skills and experience are in PR, advertising or marketing? If you have been used to dealing with sponsors, or are able to dedicate time to help us with regular statistical analysis or experience in social media we would be very pleased to hear from you.

The Brewery Yard Club is an ideal venue for you to relax and have your say, but as we expect a good attendance you are advised to get there early. The meeting has no formal agenda and will run until 1pm, but there is an exciting announcement which will be made at the meeting, something which has been worked on, behind the scenes, for some time.

We look forward to meeting you on the day, we value your opinions and comments and the Rye News team are equally as excited to meet you.
