Save Camber Sands

Tomorrow Saturday 20th Dec.there is a meeting being held at the Camber Castle (69 Lydd Rd, Camber, Rye TN31 7RS) at 2.00pm.It is under the umbrella of ‘Save Camber Sands’ (SCS) Business Group. Newly formed for businesses to discuss the deep concerns that exists over the impact the nationwide publicity of Southern Water’s (SW) beach pollution is having locally. Although effecting other parts of the coastline the focus in papers, social media and national TV news has been primary on Camber. Many businesses believe this has impacted severely on non-seasonal tourism, passing trade including deterring Airbnb and holiday rental bookings, and day visitors coming because of fears of using the beach. Worsened now with the news that the ‘beads’ are now discovered to contain arsenic and lead. This will continue into next season and likely beyond.
This is a business community initiative and the ‘ripples’ are likely to impact on a wide circle of people involved in hospitality, restaurants, cafes, those who clean accomodation, and facilities, those who manage rental properties or maintain them. Many people dependant on seasonal income.
The meeting is intended to discuss the current and future impact on many livilhoods and if you are are business of any kind and concerned, perhaps already noticing a drop in business, attendances or bookings you are encouraged to attend and contribute ideas to tackle this serious issue and turn things around. Southern Water need to be held to account and Goverment intervention is essential. Only this week it has been made known that SW are not cooperating with the Dept of Environment’s investigation into the pollution. There is need for furthecaction to speed up the cleaning, counter negative publicity and possibly seek financial compensation for financial losses. Please do turn up

The event is finished.
