
Winchelsea Literary Society – “The Four Quartets”
A mini lecture and reading by Lord Gawain Douglas
Lord Gawain Douglas is an accomplished writer, teacher, performing poet and musician.
He is the younger son of Francis, the 11th Marquess of Queensbury, and the great nephew of the poet Lord Alfred Douglas, who was also notorious for his relationship with Oscar Wilde.
Gawain has written four collections of poetry and a compilation of his poetry,
“Fortuna”, was published in 2009. Gawain has made a special study of the works of T S Eliot, in particular “The Waste Land” and “Four Quartets’. In 2006 he recited “Four Quartets” in Canterbury Cathedral, as part of the Canterbury Festival, and gave subsequent performances in Australia and Scotland.
