A school song for Rye pupils is among the performances being sung by local children at this year’s Hastings Music Festival.
Children from 10 state schools in Hastings and Rye will be coming together to sing songs they have composed with musician and teacher, Andy Nunn. Songs he has written with them are linked to the different areas of their studies, ranging from a sea shanty about Bexhill, a dog on the Titanic, The Great Wall of China and the school song for Rye pupils.
It is guaranteed to be a joyful occasion and it is open to all.
The Primary Schools Choirs will be performing at The White Rock Theatre on Thursday 26 March at 9.30am. Tickets can be booked here.
The Project is run by The Hastings Music Festival as part of their access to music programme. It was started by the late John Hart, Rye resident, who was treasurer at the Hastings Music Festival. He wanted children from local state schools to experience the joy of singing together, build the confidence to perform and to feel part of their community.
The choirs offer them the chance to enjoy and benefit from non-competitive singing and it is hoped it might expand to introduce children to a range of different instruments.
A special fund, the John Hart Schools Choir Fund, has been set up on the Hastings Music Festival website and donations are welcome to ensure that this valuable programme continues and expands over the next few years.
The full programme for the annual Hastings Music Festival is available online and tickets can be booked here. It runs from 1–26 March with three exciting weeks with performers of all ages taking to the stage to showcase their skills in singing, music, dance and drama.
