New ownership and big plans

At the start of July Michelle Hayter took over the Rope Walk café, situated in the Rope Walk Shopping Mews. It’s an exciting new venture and something Michelle has always wanted to do – to have her own café. Carolyn Gould has been for a look.

After many years in the catering industry, Michelle started at just 13 washing dishes in an American diner, before working her way through various hospitality positions and on to being a chef. When the opportunity at the café came up, Michelle decided to take the leap and venture out on her own.

Now having settled in, Michelle has brightened up the café and added her own personality with her own sparkle.

The menu has been tweaked and where possible Michelle uses local suppliers including JF Fruiterers and Rye Bay Coffee.

A new look

Her aim is to provide a friendly, welcoming space offering affordable, traditional and great value meals, available to everyone along with flexibility to cater to all needs – including gluten free and child portion options

If you love a sweet treat, homemade cakes are always on the menu with some delicious traditional favourites like brownies, shortbread and bread pudding. Yum!

With autumn now here, Michelle has introduced delicious homemade soup with bread on the side. Christmas is fast approaching which also means festive treats and meals will be available, so keep a look out for the festive options coming soon.

It’s not long until Halloween and Rope Walk Mews is decorated for the occasion. Make sure to pop in for the children’s activities, Halloween crafting, and even a line dancing demonstration so make sure to join in and have some fun. See the flyer at the bottom of this story for more details.

Looking ahead, Michelle has plans to update the outside seating area. No doubt adding a touch of her sparkly personality.

Michelle is a bubbly friendly lady and prides herself on creating a warm and welcoming environment where everyone is invited to relax. The team would love to see you soon, old and new faces alike, and another good reason to visit – it’s also dog friendly.
