Sing It Out – the mindful choir that meets in Rye every Wednesday – is busy rehearsing for a charity concert to be held at St Mary’s Church, Rye on Saturday, May 31.
The evening is set to be a celebration of music for women’s voices. Ashford-based Alchemy is also on the billing, and a visiting choir from Hereford – the Border Belles – will be making a stop in Rye as part of their mini-tour to join in the musical fun.
All funds raised from the event will be for the 1066 Pink Ladies – a local breast cancer support group.
The Sing it Out Choir was formed just after lockdown when choir leader, Rebecca Lodge Birkebaek, met with Joanna Allen, creator and owner of the Humble Hub in St Leonards, and they shared an idea for creating a group to support well-being and encourage mindfulness through singing. Now almost four years old, the choir has grown steadily in numbers, with some members having been with the group since the very beginning.
Rebecca who leads both the Sing it Out Choir and Alchemy has organised the charity event. “We’re all very excited to be holding our first big concert in Rye, and for such a good cause, we really hope local folk will want to come and support both the cause and the choirs, it’s going to be a great evening.”
Joanna Allen adds: “It’s so heartening to see the Sing it Out Choir flourish. Our Wednesday evening rehearsals are a really treasured time. We always agree that no matter what we’ve been through that day – we always leave feeling better for having had a sing. We hope the concert will also give people a flavour of what we’re all about and might tempt some more to come along and join us!”
The concert will run from 7pm – 9pm on Saturday, May 31 – tickets are £10 each and will include refreshment. You can book here.
There will also be a raffle on the night which the 1066 Pink Ladies themselves will be running with a generous selection of prizes many of which have been donated by Rye shops and businesses.
