Rye Town Football Club are all set to kick-off the new season in division one of the East Sussex league.
Manager Shane Ridgers has a squad of 30, which includes players, coaches, and linesmen, and everyone is looking forward to a return to regular matches following two seasons disrupted by the pandemic.
The team are also fortunate to have great support from local sponsors, who are looking for some winning results. Headline sponsors are Rush, Witt and Wilson who sponsor the home kit, and Rock Channel Marine, long-time supporters, who sponsor the away kit.
Man of the match sponsor is memorial masons Yew Tree Stone from Bodiam, while the Kings Head Inn sponsor the training kit.
Charmaine Ridgers, club secretary, is looking forward to a successful season: “We’re in a league of nine teams, plus three cup competitions, and were winners of the league only a few years ago. You could say we have high aspirations for the season ahead.”
The team will be sharing their home pitch at Rye Rugby Club, with Hastings United.
Charmaine added: “You have no idea how difficult it is to find a soccer pitch these days. We’re very grateful to Rye Rugby Club, but it would be great to have our own home ground. Sadly, at the moment, that is not going to happen.”
The season kicks off with an away game to Peche Hill on September 11.
