Icklesham Casuals had a good win 2 -0 last Saturday against Old Town Lions. A close match was expected against their fellow Division Four promotion contenders and that is exactly how the game turned out with both teams creating chances.

It was Val Newman, making his first competitive start of the season, who put Icklesham ahead in the first half and the points were secured by Phil Badrock in the second period when he netted his 28th goal of the season.

Michael Watson in the Icklesham goal made a number of important saves and was named the Helenswood Sports Centre Man of the Match.

On Sunday afternoon Icklesham Casuals veterans took on Bexhill Town veterans in the Hastings F.A. Veterans League.

The Casuals started the game well and created several good chances early on but it was Bexhill who took the lead before a long range effort from Val Newman drew Icklesham level at the break.

The second half was evenly contested. In the 50th minute Icklesham were awarded a penalty when Newman was fouled in the area and he picked himself up to fire the penalty low into the net. Newman completed his hat-trick on 64 minutes to make it 3-1 when he spotted the Bexhill keeper well off his line and stuck the ball over him and into the net from almost on the halfway line.

Bexhill pulled a goal back on 76 minutes but four minutes later the two goal advantage was restored when Mike Beaumont stooped to head home a cross from the right. It looked then as though the points were safe but Bexhill reduced the deficit with five minutes remaining to set up a nervous finish.

This Saturday sees Welcroft Park Rangers visit the Recreation Ground in a league fixture with a 2pm. kick-off.
