Rye Bay welcomed Hastings United to Dogs Hill Rd last Sunday (February, 8) for their second meet of the season. The match started well for Rye Bay’s under 12s who kept Hastings United on the back foot. The breakthrough finally came midway through the first half when Tom Giles made a good right cross to Cijay Vickerman, who buried the ball into the corner of the net.
Rye doubled their lead five minutes later when a neat through-ball split the Hastings defence, allowing the lively Jordan Kilsby to run through and calmly chip the ball past the oncoming keeper. Just before the break, Rye took their foot off the gas and after a mix-up on the edge of their box, Hastings got back into the game with a fine shot, leaving Rye’s stand-in keeper Jason Dalton with no chance. Half time 2-1.
The second half started with Rye looking dangerous in attack and, from then on, they dominated the game in midfield. With Vickerman winning the ball and Harry Walker knocking the passes around, it wasn’t long before Rye added their third goal as Kilsby again found himself in the box, firing past the keeper. Rye kept up the pressure, creating chances and playing some nice passing football. The fourth goal came courtesy of Spencer Milton, who received the ball from the right and fired a powerful shot into the far corner. 4-1.
Hastings were now looking deflated and Rye took full advantage by adding a fifth. It was Kilsby again, scoring a hat trick, placing his shot neatly into the far corner of the goal. Rye added two more when Milton added his second and Rye’s sixth when his corner somehow swung into the Hastings goal. Giles scored his second goal when he found himself one on one with the keeper and made no mistake, scoring with a fine finish. 7-1 to Rye.
A good game for Rye with plenty of good defending and attacking play. All boys as usual gave 100%. Well done boys.
