Despite the drop in temperature, Rye Cricket Club is dreaming of a hot summer, as it has continued to prepare for the 2024 season.
The club has just completed eight weeks of indoor coaching for its youngest members. The older juniors were unable to access a time slot at Rye Sports Centre due to the closure of the sports centre at 8pm. We restart indoor coaching for both softball and hardball on March 6 2024, from 6pm – 8pm, the older juniors will be joining the adult practice nets at Claremont School in Bodiam from late February.
Rye Cricket Club is working with Rye College and Rye Primary to introduce cricket to the young people in the schools. Rye Coaches, supported with grant money from the Rye Fund, are delivering a four week introductory cricket session to PE groups, with Sussex County Cricket Club running a cricket roadshow in spring for the young people, with the support of grant funds from the Rye Fund.
The intention is then to encourage young people to join the National Cricket Programmes that Rye CC offers on Friday evenings from May to July. These programmes are All Stars and Dynamos. More detail can be found at https://www.ecb.co.uk/play/all-stars.
Last Friday the rains finally relented and the cricket square had its first cut following the successful end of season renovations, and a fertiliser feed. See the image above for the sunny outcome.
The club is working on a range of projects over the winter, regarding players, sponsorship and the ground to ensure Rye continues to be a vibrant club and an enjoyable place to enjoy a sport that has been played in the town since at least 1754.
