Creative Centre’s Winter Salon

This title has an almost continental feel, which is appropriate, as the salon/exhibition was by open invitation. Entries flooded in from all over the UK and from abroad. The selection from the entrants was made by Rye Creative Centre curator, Paula MacArthur and the curator of the prestigious Jerwood Gallery in Hastings, Victoria Howarth.
Unfortunately, due to the limited hanging space, not all the entrants’ work could be displayed. There was a great variety of contemporary work, paintings, sculpture, film, photography and also installation, with amusing miscellaneous pieces.

Rye surely has a good reputation for the Arts. And none less so than the Rye Creative Centre – it may be across the river but it’s a short journey and worth it!

It was difficult for the judges to narrow down the selection to ten pieces, even more challenging to select the winner.

The winner of the Prize went to Sara Dare, whose works were large paintings with evocative shapes. As a result, Sara will have a solo exhibition in the Rye Creative Centre’s exhibition space sometime in the future. Get to work Sara, as I’m looking forward to seeing your exhibition!

The Winter Salon runs from now until 9th December 2017. Opening hours are Wednesday to Saturday 10 – 2pm or by appointment. Phone – 01797 229797 or visit the website.

Upcoming events and exhibitions can be seen on the website.
