Catering for bright young talent

The Rye Guild (for hospitality) has been created by Martin Blincow at the Mermaid Inn, assisted by Victorya Buss-Novell of The George and Rebekah Gilbert, having listened to employers in the industry and how they cannot recruit staff.
“We have spent the last year talking with employers, Rye College and various training providers in order to set up a town-wide apprenticeship scheme for the industry, so as to attract bright young people into a career in hospitality and catering that could take them around the world, with key transferable, employability skills being a main focus of the programme. There will be lots of extra opportunities to learn about the industry with several trips to London and related businesses and providers included. We have had a very positive response from employers in Rye and will be working with Webbe’s, The Tuscan Kitchen, The George, The Mermaid Inn and several others to offer young people a great start” said Martin and Rebekah.
Employers will be meeting West Kent College next week, and at the end of April young people and their parents are invited to an evening with the hosts to all meet up and learn in detail how the year-long apprenticeship will operate.
